What is EGEDA?

Who We Are

Founded in 1990, EGEDA is a collective management organization for intellectual property rights that represents and defends the interests of audiovisual producers stemming from the rights recognized and protected by Intellectual Property Laws.

A collective management organization, legally established, manages exploitation or remuneration rights on behalf and in the interest of multiple holders of intellectual property rights.

Intellectual property rights are the tool that allows for the correct exploitation of works, benefiting future cultural creation. Cinema is an art form that requires an industry to create, develop, and present it to the public. In this dual aspect of artistic and industrial activity, a film is created with the creative input of screenwriters, directors, actors, musicians... but also with the creative and financial contributions of producers. This makes them holders of certain rights—intellectual property rights—which are part of the remuneration for their work and the recovery of their financial contribution.

EGEDA, particularly active and vigilant regarding intellectual property rights, is also a service society for the audiovisual producers it represents and for the audiovisual industry as a whole.

Audiovisual producers (of feature films, short films, TV series...) and national or foreign rightsholders, whether individuals or legal entities, can be members of the organization. Membership in EGEDA is voluntary and free.

EGEDA is a founding sponsor of MEDIA Desk España.

EGEDA International

EGEDA maintains relationships and management agreements with various foreign associations and collective management organizations to ensure the management of producers' rights worldwide and to defend and promote Ibero-American and European audiovisual production.

Through its membership in AGICOA (Association for the International Collective Management of Audiovisual Works and Recordings) and reciprocal representation agreements signed with foreign collective management organizations and producer associations, EGEDA represents virtually all audiovisual producers worldwide.

Ibero-America

EGEDA, a member of the Federation of Ibero-American Producers (FIPCA), has been actively working since 2001 to strengthen and promote audiovisual production in Ibero-America. This is achieved through its participation in the establishment and implementation of collective management organizations for the intellectual property rights of audiovisual producers in various Ibero-American countries.

EGEDA maintains significant relationships with producer associations in different Ibero-American countries and has collaborated with national producers to create collective management entities in several countries, such as EGEDA Argentina, EGEDA Brasil, EGEDA Chile, EGEDA Colombia, EGEDA Dominicana, EGEDA Ecuador, EGEDA México, EGEDA Panamá, EGEDA Perú, and EGEDA Uruguay. These organizations manage the intellectual property rights of producers in these countries.

United States

EGEDA has a strategic alliance for Ibero-America with the MPA and agreements with IFTA, Compact Collections, and other associations operating in the region. To develop its activities in Ibero-America and enhance Spanish cinema in the United States, EGEDA has offices in Los Angeles and Miami (EGEDA US Inc.).

On November 13, 2007, a collaboration agreement was signed to support, favor, and enhance cooperation between audiovisual sector companies in Madrid and those in the United States.
